Shipbuilding cluster

In 2010 the Dutch shipbuilding cluster had a turnover of 7.2 billion euros (2009: 7.3 billion) and a total employment of 33,000 fte (2009: 34,500 fte).


New build sea-going vessels

A total of 141 sea-going vessels were delivered in 2010 (2009: 176 vessels). The order intake was 67 vessels (2009: 37 vessels) at a value of 728 million euros (2009: 0.4 billion). The export percentage was 63% (2009: 75%).

 

Maritime suppliers

The maritime turnover of approximately 750 Dutch maritime suppliers was 5 billion euros in 2010 (2009: 5.4 billion). The total employment in the Dutch maritime supply sector was 20,000 fte in late 2010 (2009: 21,000 fte).

 

Repairs, refits and maintenance

The turnover in 2010 was 420 million euros (2009: 485 million). Employment was 1,780 fte (2009:1,900 fte).

 

Smaller vessels

A total of 130 vessels (2009: 170 vessels) worth 515 million euros (2009: 750 million) were delivered in 2010. The order portfolio per 31 December 2010 was 37 vessels (2009: 68 vessels) worth 200 million euros (2009: 340 million).

 

Large yachts

A total of 30 superyachts were delivered in 2010 (2009: 19 superyachts) worth 1.1 billion euros and there were 21 new orders worth 659 million euros. In late December 2010 the order portfolio included 64 superyachts with a value of over 2 billion euros.


Shipbuilding in the world

The global shipbuilding industry completed a record number of 2,500 vessels in 2010, an increase in production of 15% measured in CGT[A1] . Overall, however, the order books are becoming less full and we are now at the level of 2006 (approx. 7,800 vessels worth 128 million CGT). The order intake of 40 million CGT is at the level of 2008.
